I declare an interest as the constituency MSP for Standard Life. Also, like many people in the chamber and outside it, I am a policyholder in the company.I am bitterly disappointed to hear that 900 jobs have gone today and I am extremely concerned for Standard Life staff.

I know that the committee cannot recommend that there be a moratorium on closures—it is for individual MSPs to lodge motions on such matters—but I would prefer us to up the ante.

We also lodged a number of amendments through various MSPs from different parties. We will continue to do that at stage 3 to improve the bill.We received a letter that stated that Peter Peacock would consider carefully any application to the unified fund for a grant to help to support parents through the new tribunal process.

We are talking about those who can afford to do so paying more for local services so that pensioners and low-paid workers can pay less.I am not surprised that the Parliament has rejected the Scottish service tax because, under our proposals, MSPs will pay an average of £3,000 a year.

We allow the local authority in which Dungavel is located, South Lanarkshire Council, to have discussions with the Home Office about the welfare of children in Dungavel, but individual MSPs are told, "If you want to know anything about it, away and ask the Home Office because the Scottish Executive is taking no responsibility."
