*S6M-07921 Michelle Thomson: 16th Laurieston Scout Group Install Automated External Defibrillator—That the Parliament congratulates the members of the 16th Laurieston Scout Group on the installation of a defibrillator at their Scout Hall; commends the consideration shown by the members on having the equipment installed outside of their Scout Hall in Spinkhill, Laurieston, to provide a lifesaving opportunity in a time of need; understands that members of the community will have access to this device, should anyone have a cardiac arrest; notes that the automated external defibrillator (AED) shocks a patient's heart into restarting, talks the user through the process, and removes the need for formal clinical training for its operation; acknowledges reports from the British Heart Foundation that fewer than one in 10 individuals will survive an out-of- hospital cardiac arrest, with the chances of survival doubling if CPR and a defibrillator can be utilised until medical assistance arrives; understands that this lifesaving equipment was provided to the 16th Laurieston Scout Group through a donation from NatWest Group plc, the parent company of the Royal Bank of Scotland; congratulates the members of the Scout Group on championing the installation of the AED, and wishes them all the best for the future.
