Buildings (Residential and Public)
Emissions from residential and public buildings mostly come from heating, and account for 15% of Scotland's emissions. They have reduced by39% between 1990 and 2023iDraft Climate Change Plan, Annex 2, pg 2 largely resulting from progressive improvements in energy standards for new buildings, government fundedenergy retrofit programmes and the mandate of more efficient condensing boilers.
We are ramping up delivery of the heat in buildings programme, doubling Home EnergyScotland’s Budget to deal with energy efficiency and investing in hydrogen and carbon capture and storage via the emerging energy technologies fund.
