Official Report Meeting date: 26 October 2005

Public Petitions Committee, 26 Oct 2005

That measure would be much easier to implement than one in which the police would be involved, because it concerns a contractual matter that would come under the civil law and could be acted on quite quickly.Another possibility is the idea of having mobile 20mph limits. I am not certain whether that is within the powers of the Scottish Parliament and local authorities, but I believe that it would be possible to require, through regulations, school buses to have a flashing 20mph limit sign on the back that would come on when they stopped.

Is a speed limit of, say, 15mph or 20mph an alternative to barriers? An alternative to barriers in what sense?
Official Report Meeting date: 14 November 2005

It seems to our group that there should be a maximum speed limit of 20mph because of the line's proximity to the walkway and cycleway.

Health Committee, 15 Jun 2004

The speed controls that are being introduced in built-up areas—the speed limit has been reduced to 20mph on a number of estates—has nothing to do with controlling speed on the roads; it is about the fact that a child who is hit by the bumper of a car travelling at 20mph may well survive, but they will not survive if ...

Official Report Meeting date: 20 April 2004

Local Government and Transport Committee, 20 Apr 2004

For example, the recent official opening of the road from Arisaig towards Mallaig was accompanied by an announcement that the final section of single-track trunk road in Scotland, and I think in all of the UK, will be upgraded over the next couple of years, with plans for the upgrade of the road from Arisaig to Loch nan Uamh.Much significant work is being done, but my priorities for the future are to do more of the smaller-scale schemes, such as bypasses and underpass and overpass schemes, which can help make access to our trunk roads safer, reduce the number of road accidents and make the roads generally safer, particularly for children and young people. Investing in initiatives such as 20mph...
Official Report Meeting date: 12 June 2003

Plenary, 12 Jun 2003

We should consider cycling and walking projects, safe routes to schools, greener planning and home zones. The 20mph zones and the "twenty's plenty" campaign have been mentioned.
Official Report Meeting date: 29 March 2001

Plenary, 29 Mar 2001

We know that 20mph zones are critical. In the 20mph areas in the 75 pilot schemes that we have considered for the research there are fewer accidents and—because of the 20mph tag—drivers are more aware.
