This is because shielding is a severe intervention which may be difficult to adhere to for such a long period of time, and the additional benefit gained from this extra measure needs to be weighed against any impact on someone’s mental and physical wellbeing.

Families and individuals in Scotland who require financial help can apply to their local authority for a grant from the Scottish Welfare Fund. We are providing an extra £45 million for the Fund to meet additional demand arising as a consequence of COVID-19.
If an individual is receiving treatment for a respiratory condition, it is important that they take extra care of their overall wellbeing, and attending hospital appointments is part of this.

To ask the Scottish Government what preventative measures it is taking to mitigate any impact on NHS Lothian services from the extra costs incurred in building the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.
This is why, alongside the recruitment campaign, we have invested in increasing specialist training places, offering 10 extra radiology training places per year.

The review is due to be completed at the end of March 2018. NHS Grampian were also given an extra funding of £4.9 million to help reduce waiting times across services, with it being up to the Board to decide where to invest this funding.
