That change has been quite successful.We are fortunate to have as MSPs so many former teachers who can bring their particular expertise and ideas to debates such as this.
Supporting the bill at stage 1 would be a magnificent gesture on the part of all MSPs, but it would be more than a gesture to support the bill, with amendments, at stages 2 and 3 in order to help to secure the future of Gaelic as a viable language.

Since the Scottish Parliament was established, whenever any MSP has asked a witness whether he would like public money, the answer has always been yes, so I assume that Hugh Allen would seek public money.
It is all very well for us to sit in the chamber and congratulate ourselves on putting in extra money at the top, but our constituents and many MSPs are asking the clear question of what that means at the bottom.
I should say that Pauline McNeill, who is the MSP for Glasgow Kelvin, intended to attend today's meeting, but was unable to do so as the committee of which she is convener was meeting at the same time.
