Under SEPA’s regulatory framework, fish farm operators have to ensure that concentrations of nitrogen in the waterbody or local sea area in which the farm is situated will not exceed the relevant environmental standard for Dissolved Inorganic Nitrogen (DIN) in Scottish coastal waters as defined in the River Basin District Standards Directions 2014.
