The Minister accepted that other trapping methods were not as effective as snares but referred to conservation bodies, such as RSPB Scotland and the Woodland Trust, who do not use snaring as a method of predation control and highlighted RSPB Scotland’s position, taking into account it is “an organisation which cares about ground-nesting birds”.
The Committee recognises that any such mechanism should be proportionate and not overly burdensome and take account of potential commercial sensitivities in recording such information.
