The most recent figures show that there are 17,273 police officers in Scotland, which is 1,039 more than there were at March 2007. We are working closely with the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, chief constables and police board conveners to ensure that our forces work as efficiently as possible so that front-line police numbers can be maintained.

We move to the final instrument, which has been made in order to address some unintended consequences of the coming into force of schedule 2 of the Tobacco and Primary Medical Services (Scotland) Act 2010.The schedule came into force when the 2010 act received royal assent on 3 March, and it repealed certain provisions in existing tobacco legislation.
