S6M-01059: Clare Adamson: Electrical Fire Safety Week 2021 - That the Parliament recognises that Electrical Fire Safety Week begins on 22 November 2021; understands that, this year, the annual initiative, which is run by the charity, Electrical Safety First, will focus on the potential risks of electrical fires caused by counterfeit and recalled products that are easily available to purchase on online marketplaces; believes that three out of five people in Scotland will turn to these platforms for Christmas shopping this year; understands that multiple investigations by Electrical Safety First have discovered dangerous electrical goods for sale via third-party sellers on online marketplaces, including products, such as washing machines and tumble dryers, that have been listed for sale despite being subject to recall notices by the manufacturer due to safety concerns; welcomes the creation of the new body, Consumer Scotland, which will have a requirement to establish a central database to raise awareness around major product recalls; notes calls encouraging consumers to remain vigilant when purchasing electrical goods and for them to stick to trusted stores or websites of known manufacturers and retailers, such as those found on the high street; commends the continued efforts and advocacy of Electrical Safety First, which is dedicated to preventing deaths, injuries and accidents caused by electricity, and wishes everyone involved with Electrical Fire Safety Week 2021 every success in raising awareness of this important issue.
