Apologies have been received from Michael McMahon MSP. Before we welcome the witnesses who are here for our main evidence session today, we will deal with item 1, which concerns items in private.
I welcome members of the press and public, visitors and those from whom we will be taking evidence. Sprinkled around the table are MSPs, members of the official report and officers of the Parliament.
In fact, it raises the question of who is running Scotland: elected representatives—councillors and the Scottish Parliament—or unelected quangos? MSPs of all parties in Glasgow, including the MSP for Glasgow Baillieston, Margaret Curran, want the incinerator closed.
Three of them left the chamber before the vote, and one, Bashir Maan, voted to retain section 2A. There are 56 Labour MSPs, 35 SNP MSPs and 17 Liberal MSPs.
Moreover, we have heard about the difficulties that the Parliament's staff face in finding secure child care facilities. Some MSPs have also worked in child care services and at least one MSP was the chairman of a local child care partnership.
