However, I was not prepared for what I was to face when I became an MSP. Do you accept that, as an Edinburgh MSP, I am decidedly twitchy about the idea that a contract for the biggest public infrastructure project ever in Scotland can go through in a few months, especially given what we have experienced with the tram project, while progress does not seem to be being made on the community engagement parts of the project?

I am not for one minute suggesting that there should not be a high degree of focus on the cities, but I feel that the local authority areas around Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen have not had enough focus. As a regional MSP for the West of Scotland, I am thinking in particular about Inverclyde.

We could do that rather than necessarily deflect this meeting to talk just about trams.On the question of tools that decision makers can use, they need to be accessible and usable for MSPs, local councillors, community councillors and all sorts of people who influence policy-making decisions.
