Official Report Meeting date: 29 September 2010

Meeting of the Parliament 29 September 2010

I am pleased to contribute to the debate.17:24 Jackie Baillie is to be commended for allowing the Parliament the opportunity to put on record our support for the see me campaign and to raise some of our worries about on-going issues around mental health in Scotland. In a way, the debate shows up one of the weaknesses of the Parliament—consider when we are debating it and the number of MSPs involved. This comment is not directed at any one party, but is it beyond our collective wit to take part of the Government’s time for its debates to address issues such as this, rather than some of the nonsense that we debate to very little purpose?

Having done that research and having spoken to various MSPs, I found that EDGE delivers a very good programme.I was rather concerned to hear Scottish Enterprise say that, because of “budget constraints”, to use the phrase that its representatives used when speaking to me about it, it could not continue the 2010 programme.

We play it because we enjoy it, and for the love of the game.Back in 2004, John Gold wrote about the drop-out rate of 96 per cent because of the system. He wrote to one of the MSPs to say that we should leave the kids to enjoy their football, to have fun and build relationships with their friends, and get the clubs to come in and deliver the coaching locall...

I am pleased that we have the chance to have a shared discussion this afternoon. The petition has been lodged on behalf of the save your regional parks campaign, and it asks the Scottish Parliament to urge the Government to provide greater protection for the national and regional parks of Scotland from industrialisation, including wind farms and their associated quarries, roads, cable trenches and sub-stations.I welcome Kenneth Gibson MSP...

Education, Lifelong Learning and Culture Committee, 02 Dec 2009

Perhaps I am the only constituency MSP in Scotland—although I doubt it very much—to have been told about parents' difficulties with pupil support in the classroom, because teachers are prioritised over pupil support assistants, therefore pupil support is bearing the brunt of the education cuts.

The theme for next year is the importance of the involvement of women in all aspects of the political process, from voting to becoming an MSP.
