The use of X-rays and CT scans are subject to UK-wide legislation, including the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations IR(ME)R 2000, which includes a specific requirement that each individual exposure must be justified by a practitioner, taking account of the health risks associated with exposure of the patient to ionising radiation.
