Official Report Meeting date: 24 February 2015

Meeting of the Parliament 24 February 2015

Against the Glasgow-focused projects, albeit that they also benefit much of the rest of Scotland, there is a need to address other projects around the country—for example, double tracking the line to Aberdeen from the south at the current bottleneck at Montrose. I am, of course, a Glasgow MSP, but we all have to think nationally as well.
Official Report Meeting date: 4 February 2015

Meeting of the Parliament 04 February 2015

Gavin Brown has perhaps read the same Bill Jamieson article that I read about LBTT, in which Bill Jamieson said: “few acronyms are more calculated to empty a room these days than L&BTT ... MSPs can be excused utter bafflement as to how much L&BTT will actually raise.”

Education and Culture Committee 04 November 2014

It does not make sense to me to have wee authorities right next door to each other that all have a director, head of service and quality improvement officers when we have big authorities, such as the City of Edinburgh Council and Glasgow City Council, that probably have more schools than three or four of the smaller authorities put together. I know that it is hard for MSPs, because you give them the money but cannot tell them what to do with it, which is a huge issue.

Meeting of the Parliament 22 April 2014

I am afraid that you must close.16:34 As a member of the European and External Relations Committee and an MSP whose constituents benefit greatly from the advantages of being part of the European Union, I am delighted to have the opportunity to highlight the benefits that Scotland enjoys as part of a strong United Kingdom in Europe.
Official Report Meeting date: 19 February 2014

Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment Committee 19 February 2014

I was going to ask a question about restoration, but given the clarification that the minister has just provided, I will not do so. Obviously as a South Scotland MSP—just to be parochial again—I have had concerns raised with me not only in relation to Canonbie but on the much broader issue of the lack of restoration bonds for opencast mining.
Official Report Meeting date: 5 February 2014

Meeting of the Parliament 05 February 2014

That has taken a little longer than we would have liked it to take, but the consensus that clearly exists among Labour and SNP MSPs—that shared anger and frustration at what is an unfair penalty on our poorest households—has found its political expression.I thank everyone who gave voice to their frustration and despair at the effect of that punitive measure...

Health and Sport Committee 04 February 2014

My question is for Mr Pearson. As a Central Scotland MSP, I attended a meeting with the board of NHS Lanarkshire last week along with constituency members and other regional members.
Official Report Meeting date: 8 January 2014

Meeting of the Parliament 08 January 2014

Ministers will certainly do everything that we possibly can to assist in that respect. If Mr Scott, as a local MSP, has a particular perspective, I will of course be very happy to hear that and to take that forward in any way that we can.
Official Report Meeting date: 18 December 2013

Meeting of the Parliament 18 December 2013

I am pleased, therefore, that it will play an increased role in the provision of debt solutions that are efficient, fair and reasonable.15:28 I draw members’ attention to my entry in the register of members’ interests, where I have noted that I am a Co-operative Party MSP and a member of Capital Credit Union.
Official Report Meeting date: 4 December 2013

Meeting of the Parliament 04 December 2013

I support Labour’s motion, which calls on the Government to produce a comprehensive, ambitious and inclusive national housing action plan.16:28 Somewhere—perhaps in a parallel universe—129 MSPs sit in a Parliament that is capable of disagreeing on independence but which still reaches rational agreements and has informed debates on other social and economic ...
