Official Report Meeting date: 10 January 2012

Health and Sport Committee 10 January 2012

Jackson Carlaw was trying to tease out the culture behind alcohol. Having, as a Glasgow MSP, seen the culture of harmful use and abuse of alcohol, I have to say that it quite often comes down to young people filling up on cheap alcohol from off-sales and topping it up at more expensive bars and clubs in the city.

Health and Sport Committee 08 November 2011

If we are to get that right, that implies a shift away from the acute sector into the community, which will involve difficult decisions for us all—for me, as health secretary, and for you, as local MSPs. We must develop the ability to take those decisions on their merits and we must be prepared, on occasion, to take decisions that might be controversial.

Public Petitions Committee, 08 Sep 2009

For the record, I point out that I signed two motions—S3M-3917 and S3M-3976—in the name of Patricia Ferguson, who is the constituency MSP for Maryhill. Those motions said things that I still believe to be true: the Parliament"applauds the Save Our Schools campaign … considers the arguments against closure to be compelling and well made"and believes that"the...
Official Report Meeting date: 25 June 2009

Plenary, 25 Jun 2009

It is helpful that the committee has taken the approach of amalgamating public and private bill procedures, which are familiar to MSPs and to members of the public. Most important, we hope that the new procedures will serve members of the public by allowing them to make their views heard when necessary, which we believe will result in a fair and measured ou...

Finance Committee, 10 Nov 2008

They had robust views on the consequences of antisocial behaviour for people and communities. As a constituency MSP, I find that that is probably the single biggest issue in my postbag.
Official Report Meeting date: 24 September 2008

Local Government and Communities Committee, 24 Sep 2008

We may be getting ahead here, but I think that we would all, as constituency MSPs if not as a committee, agree that that aspect needs to be examined. You mentioned a review.
