Supported by: Siobhian Brown *S6M-15513 Tim Eagle: Eight Trainee Fishermen Complete Commercial Fishing Course— That the Parliament congratulates the eight trainee fishermen, who, earlier in November 2024, successfully undertook the three-week intensive introduction to commercial fishing course, run at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) North, West and Hebrides campus in Stornoway; understands that the course was run through the Western Isles Fisheries Training Association with funding support from Seafish and input from Skills Development Scotland and Developing the Young Workforce; further understands that the eight trainees, Toby Smith, Jonathan Beaton, Roddy MacNeil, Max McInnes, Joshua MacKenzie, Goiridh Gillies, Darren MacNeil, and Kenneth MacLennan, have all since gained employment in the local fishing fleet, and warmly welcomes this evidence of local young people looking to develop their careers in the fishing industry, which, it believes, is so important for the economic, social and cultural life of coastal communities.
