I am not a financial expert, but I do not see a register as being a difficult thing to produce. I understand that the range of guidelines needs to be clear about what has to be declared and what does not, but the implementation of a register would not be difficult.

However, if the school is so good, why can we not invest in providing a portakabin and a probationer teacher—perhaps from among the 25 per cent of probationers who did not get into work between 2011 and 2012—to bolster that fabulous school so that it continues to produce fabulous pupils and a sustainable workforce for Scotland in the long term?

The dilemma that I face, having listened to Jackson Carlaw, is this: if the devices are not being used and people have stopped buying them, why is the manufacturer continuing to produce them? Of course they are being used.
