As has been pointed out, the petition ranges much wider than just the Leith museum, and we should consider it in the context of what is happening with funding for local museums in every local authority in Scotland. As an MSP for the Lothians, perhaps I should declare an interest.

Therefore, I suggest that we consider the points that the petitions make in due course, when we decide that it is time for post-legislative scrutiny. I was one of the Fife MSPs who were lobbied by the groups. I agree with the members who have just said that it would be wise to consider whether the 2005 act would be a candidate for post-legislative scrutiny....

The amendment attacks the recommendations of NRAC—which is something that Labour MSPs from Grampian, Forth Valley, Fife, Lothian and Lanarkshire might find very difficult to explain to their constituents.

One person from the USA signed it—I do not know whether it was a tourist who saw the situation and said, “Dreadful”; “Dreadful” is the only word for it. We spoke to an MSP who had had a similar situation in his constituency, which took 10 years to resolve.
