Official Report Meeting date: 6 June 2002

Social Justice Committee, 06 Jun 2002

I think that it should be passed and that people should be encouraged to seek early advice from CABx, money advisers, law centres, solicitors, sheriff officers, MSPs and so on. However, no matter what legislation we pass, there will be a rump of people who will wear blinkers and pretend that the problem is not happening to them.
Official Report Meeting date: 13 May 2002

Rural Development Committee, 13 May 2002

My real question is for Ian Cleaver, who made a comment about the forestry industry. As a constituency MSP for a tourist area in the north-east, I know that clear felling is resisted in Deeside.
Official Report Meeting date: 8 May 2002

Plenary, 08 May 2002

We certainly must act on such information at a Scottish level.I am an MSP for the Highlands and Islands and am aware that ordinary people who are trying to earn a living or run a business are sometimes left out of the sustainability equation and are finding it harder to sustain their lives in remote areas.

Justice 1 Committee, 16 Apr 2002

Stewart Stevenson has been very patient. As the constituency MSP, he has become something of an expert on Peterhead.
Official Report Meeting date: 6 March 2002

Plenary, 06 Mar 2002

There is no doubt about it: if individual MSPs such as me have to come into the chamber for a stage 3 debate to see amendments such as amendments 10 and 17, that is not sufficient.
Official Report Meeting date: 5 February 2002

Justice 1 Committee, 05 Feb 2002

It could be interpreted as allowing a public authority to destroy a lot of information. If an organisation knew that an MSP or somebody else was on the warpath about a particular issue, people within the organisation could destroy documents and say that the people at the sharp end where destruction takes place had not received the request for information.
Official Report Meeting date: 19 December 2001

Justice 1 Committee, 19 Dec 2001

I hope that there will always be complaints, because I think that they are a healthy thing. As MSPs, we say that as well. An organisation that receives a lot of complaints is not a bad organisation—it is one that is open to receiving consumer feedback.
Official Report Meeting date: 28 November 2001

Plenary, 28 Nov 2001

Perhaps the names of the McConnellites were just put in a hat and drawn out at random. After today, 29 Labour MSPs will have served on the Executive.
Official Report Meeting date: 28 November 2001

Enterprise and Lifelong Learning Committee, 28 Nov 2001

I had the distinct impression that businesses felt that the information that they had collated had not fed through to public policy and the way in which policy was devised. MSPs responded that Future Skills Scotland has been established and must be given time.
