The Animals and Wildlife (Penalties, Protections and Powers) (Scotland) Act 2020 increased penalties for certain offences in the 2006 Act, so that the maximum penalty for both causing unnecessary suffering to animals and for organising or participating in animal fighting, is now five years imprisonment and an unlimited fine.
