Official Report Meeting date: 18 April 2006

Health Committee, 18 Apr 2006

At this very late stage, it is difficult to ensure that committee members have the paperwork. In future, I urge all MSPs who have things that they wish to bring to the attention of members of any committee to do so at the earliest possible opportunity.
Official Report Meeting date: 26 January 2006

Plenary, 26 Jan 2006

I have asked the Forestry Commission to send a copy of the strategy to each MSP and have placed copies of it in the Scottish Parliament information centre because I am convinced that it will make a major contribution, not least to our sustainable development strategy.
Official Report Meeting date: 8 December 2005

All are, in equal measure, responsible for the motion that we will debate. This evening I hope to achieve three things: first, I want to secure the support of Patricia Ferguson, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport; the support of fellow MSPs; and the support of football fans and clubs from all over in an effort to persuade the Scottish Football Assoc...
Official Report Meeting date: 1 November 2005

Audit Committee, 01 Nov 2005

Although I am in no doubt about the need to increase public transparency, I should note for the record that, in my experience, the panels have been pretty proactive in communicating with MSPs about their work.My first question concerns creating greater clarity and understanding with regard to measuring Scottish Water's performance.

Nicol Stephen MSP...
Official Report Meeting date: 21 April 2005

Plenary, 21 Apr 2005

Indeed, the Scotch Whisky Association, one of the UK's most successful trade associations, employs a team of lawyers whose sole remit is to protect Scotch whisky at European and international level.I know that MSPs have been issued with the SWA brief, so I will comment only under headings.
Official Report Meeting date: 19 April 2005

Finance Committee, 19 Apr 2005

Arthur Midwinter's paper is lucid, clear and to the point and should be required reading for all MSPs. Paragraph 24 is the only one on which I will take him to task—it takes a bit of believing that the proportion of low-income pensioners has fallen from 29 per cent to 8 per cent.
Official Report Meeting date: 22 March 2005

Subordinate Legislation Committee, 22 Mar 2005

That is a bit Sir Humphreyesque for simple people such as MSPs. Will you give examples of how "interesting challenges" were addressed and say whether you can draw any lessons from that experience to suggest how the process could be improved?
Official Report Meeting date: 9 February 2005

Plenary, 09 Feb 2005

I am an ex-resident of Susan Deacon's constituency and my role as an MSP covers Fife, so I know about the sheer frustration of the local petitioners about the issue and about the lack of an enforceable code of conduct.
