When I went to my local MSP, Michael Russell, he informed me that he had spoken to Kenny MacAskill, who said that the law will be changed when Scotland gets independence.

The petition is about assistance to victims of crime and their families, so this is not so much a question as an agreement. As MSPs, we have lots of cases that go to the public prosecutors and so on, and I find that the lack of communication and lack of access to information is a sticking point for victims and their families.

That is why I think that the issue should have been referred to Scottish ministers. MSPs who represent people should have been more involved in the decisions that were taken.
