Supported by: Siobhian Brown *S6M-13499 Alexander Stewart: Alva Academy Heart Screening Event in Memory of Aiden Joyce from Tillicoultry—That the Parliament understands that a screening event has been held in memory of a Tillicoultry man who tragically passed away in 2023; understands that Aiden Joyce died on 7 March 2023, aged just 28, with his family discovering that he had an undiagnosed heart condition; considers that, in his memory, and to try and ensure that no other family experiences the same loss, his mother and father set up a heart screening session at Alva Academy over the weekend of 25-26 May 2024; notes that the family teamed up with charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) to bring this mobile heart screening station to Alva, and raised over £35,000 for the Aiden Joyce Memorial Fund, which will be used to screen young people aged 14 to 35; further notes that Aiden’s mother, Lorraine, confirmed that 186 young people received life-saving heart screening tests, with around 12 referred for further treatment, and that she now aims to make the event an annual occurrence; sends its deepest sympathies to Aiden’s parents, Lorraine and Campbell, and the family on their very sad loss, and commends everyone involved, as well as the generosity of local residents and businesses, for the event’s enormous success.
