Official Report Meeting date: 6 June 2002

Social Justice Committee, 06 Jun 2002

I think that it should be passed and that people should be encouraged to seek early advice from CABx, money advisers, law centres, solicitors, sheriff officers, MSPs and so on. However, no matter what legislation we pass, there will be a rump of people who will wear blinkers and pretend that the problem is not happening to them.
Official Report Meeting date: 21 May 2002

Finance Committee, 21 May 2002

However, a low-cost improvement for all those—MSPs included—who are involved in scrutinising the budget would be to set beside the budget a context document as an aide-mémoire or a reminder of some of the big figures in the budget.
Official Report Meeting date: 13 May 2002

Rural Development Committee, 13 May 2002

My real question is for Ian Cleaver, who made a comment about the forestry industry. As a constituency MSP for a tourist area in the north-east, I know that clear felling is resisted in Deeside.

Official Report Meeting date: 19 December 2001

Justice 1 Committee, 19 Dec 2001

I hope that there will always be complaints, because I think that they are a healthy thing. As MSPs, we say that as well. An organisation that receives a lot of complaints is not a bad organisation—it is one that is open to receiving consumer feedback.
Official Report Meeting date: 28 November 2001

Enterprise and Lifelong Learning Committee, 28 Nov 2001

I had the distinct impression that businesses felt that the information that they had collated had not fed through to public policy and the way in which policy was devised. MSPs responded that Future Skills Scotland has been established and must be given time.
Official Report Meeting date: 14 November 2001

Justice 2 Committee, 14 Nov 2001

That is not borne out in the figures, but representations have been made to me as a constituency MSP that fiscal fines are used for more serious offences, for which they should not be used.
Official Report Meeting date: 7 November 2001

Health and Community Care Committee, 07 Nov 2001

When you lodge an amendment and want to be involved at that level, do you not think it courteous to tell MSPs that you have withdrawn an amendment before we stand up to support you in the chamber?
Official Report Meeting date: 12 September 2001

Transport and the Environment Committee, 12 Sep 2001

However, we are trying to create not a national plan, blueprint or end-state document, but a framework. We feel that MSPs should be involved in the discussion, either through the work of the Transport and the Environment Committee or through a wider debate in Parliament.I mentioned the involvement of lawyers and the perception that sometimes policy has been...
