We have never said to anyone who wanted to speak to us that we did not want to speak to them. We have always been receptive to people who want to speak to us.If the convener of the conveners liaison group and a couple of conveners want to come to speak about the paper, I am perfectly happy to allow that.

The general trend in 2000 was downwards, with a 12 per cent drop in the number of remand prisoners and an 11 per cent drop in receptions for fine default. Unfortunately, we cannot jump to conclusions about long-term trends from those figures, as we already know that the number of female prisoners has increased during the course of 2001.
