The Scottish Government has carefully considered the findings of the review by Laura Dunlop QC, James Hamilton’s Ministerial Code inquiry and the Scottish Parliament Harassment Committee’s report and is publishing its composite response today.
Sexual Harassment (Code of Conduct for MSPs and Staff) To ask the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body whether it will consider producing a code of conduct for MSPs and staff regarding their behaviour in relation to sexual harassment.
Specifically on whether you can amend and add to the code, section 7(4) of the bill, which is on the effect of the code, allows for the Scottish ministers “to add a person or description of person” to the persons that the code has an effect upon.
I note that the bill also refers to a code of practice for sustainable and regenerative agriculture; it does not say what that will be, but it says that there will be a code as part of the process.
We conducted three compliance assessments on the code of practice. Members will remember that the code was approved by the Parliament in November 2022.
