Dockets may be used when it is necessary to lead evidence of criminal conduct, but it is not competent to libel a charge detailing that conduct because: • The offence is time-barred, • There is a lack of jurisdiction, i.e. the conduct occurred outside Scotland, • The accused has been convicted of the offence in the past, • The accused was aged under 12 years on the date of the offence. An accused cannot be convicted of any conduct contained within the docket, but the evidence led in relation to that conduct can provide corroboration of the evidence of the charges on the Indictment or complaint.
