This is an existential crisis for many people. When lockdown first occurred, in March 2020, there was a significant increase in destitution—in people being unable to feed themselves or to look after their families.
On that note, I really welcome the Scottish Government’s significant funding of £16 million in perinatal and infant mental health since March 2019, and the funding for all NHS boards towards specialist community perinatal mental health services.
The consultation on the matter runs until the end of March. We want to ensure that we get it right, and we want to prevent more homelessness at an earlier stage, so that people do not have to face the trauma and disruption that it brings to their lives.
