Obviously, there has been a gap in respect of what has been said before the committees about the scope of the biometrics commissioner, particularly with regard to their powers and accountability. It is very important that the commissioner is positioned in a way that, whatever they do and whatever technology they look at—whether that is facial recognition, drones or cyberkiosks—they can lay down consistent and clear guidance.
