This made a number of provisions with the aim of “securing the status of the Gaelic language as an official language of Scotland commanding equal respect to the English language.” The 2005 Act established Bòrd na Gàidhlig.
The Bòrd has a number of functions, these include—
preparing and publishing the National Gaelic Plan
requiring certain public bodies to produce Gaelic Plans and to approve and monitor those plans
providing support and advice
producing statutory guidance on Gaelic education.
