We learned of those concerns only through media reports in the past few days and, given the level of concern, it is appropriate that the committee ask further questions. I agree. Farmers have approached MSPs on the issue, so there is obviously strong feeling on it.Is it agreed that we ask for further information?

Will Jackie Baillie lodge a petition on that issue? As an MSP, I have been discouraged from lodging any petition, but I am sure that I can find other people to do that for me.

The Scottish Parliament information centre does not have the bill and, therefore, MSPs cannot see it or comment on it or fulfil our function of democratic scrutiny of the legislation.

For example, we want to consider social inclusion and access to health services. The local MSP, Alasdair Morrison, and the local council, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, raised such issues with me—as did the community on Barra—when I visited the island in January.
