A Scottish Government official confirmed that the points raised by the Law Society had been considered before finalising the code of practice.
In relation to accessibility, the official explained that the Law Society's suggestion that the code should be available in different languages and formats had not been accepted because the code was for use primarily by constables.
Of course part of our role is to support Ministers in engagement with the other Governments in these islands. In that context, the Code’s provisions on integrity are particularly important.
Under sections 1 and 2 of the 2000 Act the Scottish Ministers are required to produce a Councillors’ Code of Conduct (“the Councillors’ Code”) along with a Model Code of Conduct for members of devolved public bodies (‘the Model Code’).
