In England, the Glue Traps (Offences) Act received Royal Assent and a ban will come into force in April 2024, so it is logical that such a ban should be brought forward in Scotland as well.

The Scottish Government has adopted a target to create 10,000ha of new woodlands per year, rising to 15,000 ha per year by 2024. Regional Forestry and Woodland Strategies have been produced by each Local Authority, including by Dumfries and Galloway Council, to help identify suitable areas for woodland expansion.

Preventative spending in Scotland - Allocation of funding
In an open letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer in October 2024, officials from The Health Foundation, Demos, Institute for Government and CIPFA pointed out that, between 2009 and 2023, local authority spending on long-term services in England was cut by three quarters, while spending on looked-after children and safeguarding rose by more than half.
