Official Report Meeting date: 30 November 2021

Meeting of the Parliament (Hybrid) 30 November 2021

We have published a wealth of information, and I am happy to engage further on the detail in and around that with Ms Webber or any other MSP. Boring into the detail is crucial if we are to redesign systems of care, whether those are community services or residential rehabilitation services, to meet the needs of individuals rather than those of providers, lo...

Meeting of the Parliament (Hybrid) 11 November 2021

With the fate of the planet hanging in the balance and the diplomacy between the two biggest global emitters at a high point, should we not seek to extend the conference to see what other areas of co-operation might be possible as we go into the weekend? Along with other MSPs, I was at yesterday’s plenary stock-taking session, at which the president of the ...

Meeting of the Parliament (Hybrid) 26 October 2021

Will the cabinet secretary join me in urging Conservative MSPs in this Parliament, particularly those who represent the north-east, to stand up for their constituents and urge their colleagues in the UK Government to reverse the decision and support the vital project?

I am happy to discuss that further with MSPs with an interest in the statement.

Meeting of the Parliament 15 September 2021 (Hybrid)

Motion debated, That the Parliament notes the reported proposals to re-zone St Fittick’s Park in Torry, Aberdeen, currently designated urban green space, and Doonies Rare Breeds Farm, currently part of the green belt, to facilitate port expansion as part of a larger industrialisation plan to create an energy transition zone; recognises what it sees as the importance of transitioning away from fossil fuels, but also what it considers the negative impacts that over-industrialisation can have on resident communities, such as poor air quality, loss of greenspace and various forms of pollution, including noise; believes that community green spaces are positive for mental wellbeing and people’s right to a healthy environment; appreciates the value of having an award-winning, biodiverse area of woodland, wetland and recreational grassland in these areas, which it understands experience multiple social deprivation; acknowledges the reported opposition to the re-zoning by the community in Torry, including the Friends of St Fittick’s Park campaign, on environmental justice and community wellbeing grounds; notes the view that these sites are valuable to the people and worthy of protection, and further notes the belief that their re-zoning is inappropriate. 18:14 I thank Mercedes Villalba, Audrey Nicoll and the other MSPs...

Indeed, section 36 of the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009 requires the Government to produce such a report and lay it before Parliament so that MSPs can scrutinise policy proposals.

Public Petitions Committee 09 February 2016

Considerable issues have been raised, and I am aware of those as an MSP and previously as an agent in some heart-rending cases.

Meeting of the Parliament 05 March 2015

That concerns me not just because of the number of staff that we can employ—I can employ 1.75 staff—but because of the level of payment for our staff. This has nothing to do with MSPs’ salaries. Will the SPCB look at the funding that we have to do our job properly and pay our staff properly?
Official Report Meeting date: 13 January 2015

Welfare Reform Committee 13 January 2015

I understand that new members might not be aware of the approach that we have operated to dealing with correspondence and information. However, even if MSPs are not familiar with the processes, they must be aware of the confidentiality requirement under section 7.4 of the “Code of Conduct for Members of the Scottish Parliament”, which clearly states when me...

Justice Committee 04 November 2014

I request that the committee write to the Cabinet Secretary for Justice and ask for an update. A number of MSPs have raised the issue through constituents, and it has been going on for a while.
