Official Report Meeting date: 23 June 2022

COVID-19 Recovery Committee 23 June 2022

I am sure that all the MSPs here are very familiar with the situation of being bombarded with queries from constituents asking, “In these circumstances, can I do X, Y and Z?” We were not equipped to answer those questions, and it was a difficult and time-consuming process for us to get answers.
Official Report Meeting date: 7 December 2021

Delegated Powers and Law Reform Committee 07 December 2021

It would be tempting to think that we could narrow that down to say that “urgency” definitely means X or Y and that it does not mean Z, A, B or C. Tempting though that might be, it is likely in practice to be impossible to do that in any meaningful way.
Official Report Meeting date: 7 March 2019

Equalities and Human Rights Committee 07 March 2019

Nobody is suggesting that the link in question is causal—that because someone has been physically punished, they will experience X, Y or Z. Among all the nuances, that can be lost.

Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee 28 November 2019

Personally, I would certainly not support the alternative A to Z, Z to A system, which would be quite detrimental to voters with special needs, many of whom like to memorise the ballot paper before voting.

Meeting of the Parliament 07 March 2023

A man would not accept that happening to their mother, sister, girlfriend or wife, so they need to ask themselves why it makes them feel like a big man to intimidate a girl who is sitting alone on a train. I am told that the gen Z generation has a far better attitude in relation to not accepting that kind of unacceptable behaviour, although I have no idea what “gen Z” actually means—this was from a conversation with my daughter.

Finance and Public Administration Committee 22 November 2022

I would appreciate that so that the public have a greater understanding of what you mean if you say, “Bullying was upheld because of the minister’s actions in terms of X, Y and Z.” The best way to answer that is by reference to the standards of behaviour that we have set out in the guidance to members of staff and ministers.

Education, Children and Young People Committee 24 November 2021

Official Report Meeting date: 26 April 2023

Criminal Justice Committee 26 April 2023

I am not saying for a second that we should mandate the Lord Advocate to do X Y or Z—although that is always a solution; laws can do that.
