While the UK was not, as expected by many forecasters, in the middle of a recession at the end of 2022, monthly or quarterly GDP growth over 2023 has been both positive and negative, resulting in a position where growth to date (up to July) in 2023 is only 0.04% compared to 2022 levels (see Charts 1a and 1b).
We believe that the only people who will get any true benefit from that will be those who are leaving prison and have a set release date, or care leavers who have a set date for when they will leave care.
Well, I am now saying that the consultation lasted a month over the summer holidays. From your time in government, can you give us examples of consultations that were held for a month during the summer holidays on such a substantial issue?
With the greatest respect to private providers that are complaining about wages and conditions and holidays and so on, I say that they are in it to make a profit.
