As one of the newest members of the committee, my perception is that, from its inception, the European Committee has made a real difference to the work of Europe in Scotland. When I meet people who are interested in European affairs, they tell me that it is good that the Parliament is doing X, Y and Z in relation to European matters.

Many GPs do not understand how much the specialist clinics can help patients.I suggest that the committee ask for more details from health boards throughout Scotland. They could be asked to say whether they have got a pain service and to specify whether patients have to wait for eight weeks, 138 weeks or whatever.

I am amazed that there has been no national audit of school infrastructure in Scotland in living memory. It would be useful to have the Executive's thoughts on instituting a regular audit of how bad or how good school infrastructure is.

I am the former founding chairman of the Association of Scottish Community Councils, which has set up an organisation, with a base in Edinburgh, that regularly takes evidence on various issues from all 1,200 community councils around Scotland. It may be possible to elicit some response by circulating a letter through the association's local secretaries.
