'Every Life Matters' has the overall aim of reducing the rate of suicide by 20% from a 2017 baseline, by 2022. The 2017 baseline was based on a five-year average (2013-2017) and will be compared to the five-year average for 2018-2022.
While the commitment to pay an income supplement to low income families is welcome, it is not likely to be paid until 2022. The Government should look at what they can do to speed this up or if there are other mechanisms that can be used to get money into the pockets of those who need it.4Poverty and Inequality Commission.
