The Meat Hygiene Service is responsiblefor supervision and meat inspection in all licensed fresh meat premises in Great Britain,and currently employs 173 Official Veterinary Surgeons and 144 Meat Hygiene Inspectorsin Scotland. S2W-07750

To ask the Scottish Executive when it intends to introduce regulations so that all sectors that currently dispose of raw meat waste and bones by landfill are covered by regulations similar to the Animal By-Products (Scotland) Regulations 2003. The Executive has no plansto introduce further legislative measures on the disposal of raw meat waste andbones.

Local authorities have aduty under the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968 to make such arrangements as they considerappropriate for the provision of suitable residential accommodation for personsassessed as needing such care.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether any NHS boards do not participate in the Scottish Hip Fracture Audit and, if so, which boards and what steps it is taking to ensure Scotland-wide participation. Participation in the ScottishHip Fracture Audit is on a hospital basis and full coverage in all board areasis expected from 1 April 2004.

To ask the Scottish Executive what obstacles there are to the direct election of members of police boards. Members of police boards in Scotland aredrawn from amongst directly elected members of local authorities who areappointed by their constituent authorities to the police board for their area.
