Supported by: Ash Denham* *S5M-02772 Ben Macpherson: Leith Community Crops in Pots Wins Youth and Education Award That the Parliament congratulates Leith Community Crops in Pots (L-CCP) on winning — the Youth and Education Award at the Nature of Scotland Awards; notes that the awards ceremony was held at Prestonfield House Hotel in Edinburgh on 24 November 2016; understands that this award honours a school or youth group that demonstrates that its work has made a real difference to the conservation and sustainability of Scotland s wildlife and habitats; acknowledges ’ that the founder of L-CCP, Evie Murray, started the group to give her children a healthy outdoor experience in the urban environment of Leith; appreciates that Evie began this initiative growing fruits, vegetables and herbs in her backyard with her children and, as other parents joined her, the group grew to having several integrated projects across Leith; understands that, as well as creating Edible Schoolyards around Leith, the City of Edinburgh Council appointed L-CCP to manage two acres of prominent common good land as a community growing space, with and for the local community; believes that the work of L-CCP demonstrates how common good land can be used to benefit and enrich the lives and wellbeing of communities, and wishes L-CCP and everyone involved all the best for the future.
