2020-21. The FlexibleworkforceDevelopmentFund is now open to all employers, with up to £15,000 per year available for UK Government Apprenticeship Levy payers and £5,000 for SMEs to support workforcedevelopment supporting business growth.
In the past four or five years, we have seen the introduction of the flexibleworkforcedevelopmentfund, which allows employers who pay the apprenticeship levy to reuse some of that resource to upskill employees.
A further example of training and skills involvement is the Welsh Government funding of Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) (similar to Scotland's Union Learning) via the Wales Union Learning Fund which develops the employability and essential skills of the workforce.
Witnesses acknowledged the success to date of skills support through partnership between industry, education providers, training bodies and Skills Development Scotland. The Committee considers that, in view of this success, the Scottish Government should consider whether greater priority should be given to funding for Skills Development Scotland in order to allow this important work to be developed further.
