Negative body image and a lack of self confidence
Many respondents to the Committee's call for evidence identified poor self confidence and issues around body image as a barrier to participation in sport and physical activity for many girls and women.
One contributor to the Committee's call for evidence suggested:
...the relationship between body image and physical activity is a vicious circle; the more self-conscious they feel about their bodies, the less likely they are to take part in physical activity.
