This report stressed the need for all pre-school centres and schools to be proactive in helping children and young people to develop their knowledge and understanding of personal safety issues and the skills to deal with them.
The data in the report is based on pre trust reconfiguration information, the reconfiguration of trusts in April 1999 reduced the number of trusts from 47 to 28 and almost all the trusts mentioned are now no longer in existence.Audit Scotland is currently carrying out a review of ward based nursing, with a view to reporting in the autumn 2002.

The agency is fully committed to ensuring that food manufacturers provide relevant and meaningful information for consumers.There have been increasing restrictions placed on production of ruminant mechanically recovered meat (MRM) and with effect from mid-August MRM production has been confined to pigs and poultry.Separate labelling of mechanically recovered meat in the ingredients list of pre-packed meat products has been a requirement since 1997.

In addition the Scottish Budget will increase by £288.3 million in 2000-01 as a result of Scotland's share of the Chancellor's pre-budget announcements. A range of qualifications is relevant including those leading to use of the term "nursery nurse". For pre-school education, we intend to repeal the relevant regulations of the Schools (Scotland) Code and introduce a system of guidance covering teacher involvement from the beginning of academic year 2001-02.
