To ask the Scottish Government, in light of its School support staff 2022 statistics, whether it will provide a breakdown by local authority of the increase of 2,803 pupil support assistants in schools between 2018 and 2022.
Adaptations play a vital role in that, which is why we have more than doubled our registered social landlords adaptations programme budget to £20.9 million for this financial year.
As Mr Choudhury knows, because I have told Parliament this on many occasions, the Scottish Government has presided over an affordable housing building programme that has built more houses per head of population in Scotland than have been built in any other part of the United Kingdom.
First, as part of our investment programme in housing, we need to work to ensure that our housing stock reflects the needs of the population, so accommodation that is suitable for wheelchair use is important.
I assure Mr Briggs that the Government is doing everything that we can to deliver that capital programme, but we cannot deliver it as timeously as we would like to because of the effect of inflation and the cuts to our capital budget.
In the light of the responses that we have had, I suggest that the committee considers closing the petition under rule 15.7 of standing orders, on the basis that the Scottish Government is undertaking work to consider long-term reform of local taxation, as set out in its 2021 programme for government.
