We are a devolved Parliament within the UK member state and I think that all of us in the chamber are at one on the importance of protecting and preserving our distinct legal system.When the Justice 2 Committee was in Brussels, we met the director general of the directorate-general for justice, freedom and security, who told us that account is taken of the member states' one extra legal system. I take him at his word and acknowledge that the Commission is fully apprised of our distinctiveness in criminal and civil law.
