The extent to which one party’s record is better than another’s is perhaps a moot point. We must consider how best we can make progress on the issue and how best we can come together and find some common ground.
The second question was about backdating payments versus paying the best start grant. When we were talking about the best start grant, I was scribbling down that the issue with it is that it is a lump sum payment and is made at certain points in a child’s life.
My second point is that I have some concerns about the words, “the best interests of the woman”. Obviously, we all want to act in the best interests of the woman, but who is to decide what that is?
Are there things that we can do to modify the presumption to ensure that, at each age and stage, it works in the best interests of both the visually impaired and the hearing impaired?
