I appreciate that these changes will mean a technical breach of the laying convention, as there is a need for this Order to come into force by a specific date ahead of the 2026 election.
Rural Affairs and Islands Committee 26 March 2025 Dear Convener, National Good Food Nation plan You may be aware that the Scottish Government is required under the Good Food Nation (Scotland) Act 2022 to lay its draft first national good food nation (GFN) plan in the Scottish Parliament before 30 June 2025.
Work is on track to share draft statutory guidance and information about the secondary legislation required for implementation with key stakeholders in spring this year with a view to laying this legislation in summer and publishing the guidance as soon as possible thereafter.
Its aims are to protect the public, and to maintain the standards of the legal profession and the public’s confidence that it is doing so – to which ends half of its members, recruited through the public appointments system, are lay people, in addition to the other half who are solicitor members.
Legislation has been laid in England and Northern Ireland, and Wales also intend to lay similar legislation soon. There will be a transition period for industry to implement the changes, with the legislation due to come into effect across all four nations by end December 2026.
