Supported by: Liz Smith*, Peter Chapman*, Miles Briggs*, Alison Harris* *S5M-00539 Sandra White: TS Queen Mary Returns to the Clyde That the Parliament — congratulates the Friends of TS Queen Mary on their victory in returning the TS Queen Mary to the Clyde earlier this year; acknowledges the historical significance of the TS Queen Mary as the last turbine excursion steamer built on the Clyde, which began life as a passenger ship that carried holiday makers "doon the watter" to destinations such as Dunoon, Rothesay, Millport and Arran until the breakout of the Second World War, causing the ship to change its role and become a vital lifeline for islanders by carrying passengers and supplies to and from the mainland; notes the huge potential that the ship has as an education and entertainment centre on the Clyde if restored, and wishes Friends of TS Queen Mary continued success in their efforts to raise £2 million to restore the steamer, a fundraising campaign, which is supported by the respected Scottish actor, Robbie Coltrane, and turn it into an excellent facility for the people of Glasgow and those who visit the city and, in their words, "the Clyde will give new life to the TS Queen Mary and she - in return - can help give new life to the Clyde".
