Anything that increases reoffending in the community will create extra work for the police and extra suffering for the community that has to deal with the outcomes of the process.
Sometimes, carers are asked and they do not want one. No doubt there will be extra carers who want to be assessed, and obviously there will be extra people in the community, many of whom currently pay for personal care.
The situation this year has been highly abnormal and, as it turned out, having even an extra week would not, in retrospect, have been tremendously helpful.
